Family Fun Series

Urban Bike Project social rides are perfect for beginners, folks new to the area, or experienced riders interested in low-key opportunities to meet other bicycle enthusiasts. All rides are free and open to the public. Due to insurance requirements, all riders must wear a helmet to participate, no exceptions (you can purchase one from us for as little as $5!). Masks required for all participants.

Bring the whole family to these fun, easy rides! Children of all ages are welcome on our Family Fun rides if accompanied by an adult, but please no trikes, strider bikes or training wheels. Young people not capable of riding the advertised distance by themselves are welcome if they are attached to their parent in a trailer, child seat, or tag-along.

Family Fun Ride Series Schedule:

Sunday July 11 – Family JAM Ride
1pm start; 12 miles
Start/End: DuPont Environmental Education Center
Join us for a ride down the Jack A Markell Trail from Wilmington’s Riverfront to Battery Park in Old New Castle and back. The fully paved, flat path makes for comfortable riding, and the whole family will feel proud of going the distance! We’ll rest in beautiful Battery Park and treat ourselves to ice cream cones from Jessup’s Tavern before returning to Wilmington.

CANCELLED: Sunday October 31 – Costume Ride
1pm start; 3-5 miles
Start/End: Urban Bike Project (1500 N. Walnut Street)
Join us for some good old fashioned Halloween fun. Please keep safety in mind when choosing a costume and avoid outfits with lots of loose fabric that could get caught while riding. Bonus for themed family costumes and costumes that incorporate your bicycle!

Sunday December 19 – Holiday Lights Ride
5pm start; 4-6 miles
Start/End: Urban Bike Project (1500 N. Walnut Street)
Cruise the neighborhoods with us in search of Wilmington’s best holiday light displays. We’ll make a pit stop at a coffee shop for a warm up halfway through the ride. Holiday themed apparel/accessories encouraged! Please remember to dress for the weather. All riders must have a working headlight and taillight to participate, including the little ones!
