2013 Events at Urban Bike Project

Urban Bike Project is excited to announce the dates for our 2013 Basic Mechanics Course. We have three sessions planned out so far:

Class 1 (Saturday 9AM-1PM): April 6th and 13th
Class 2 (Monday 7-9PM): April 29th, May 6th, 13th, and 20th
Class 3 (Wednesday 7-9PM): May 29th, June 5th, 12th, and 19th

These classes are limited in size and will fill up with whoever reaches out to us first. The class costs $50, but can be redeemed for shop credit towards the purchase of used bicycles and parts by volunteering your time. A quick overview of what the course entails can be found on our website. To sign up, please email urbanbikeproject@gmail.com and let us know which session you would like to attend. Payment is due at the first class, cash or check only please.

Urban Bike Project and CORE Initiative are restarting the Youth Earn-A-Bike program for 2013 this Saturday, March 2nd. We’ll be running the program every other Saturday this spring, with the days we’re open located on the calendar on our website. Please contact us to register.

We also have a few other exciting events already planned out for 2013:

- Family Fitness Night – Shortlidge Academy (March 21st): Kids at Shortlidge Academy will be able to learn about bike safety from Urban Bike Project volunteers.

- Nemours Safe Kids Day (April 20th): Urban Bike Project will be doing bicycle safety checks, bike fittings for the bike rodeo, and have a please-touch bicycle repair display.

- Hagley Bike and Hike (July 10th and August 21st): Wednesday evenings in July and August Hagley Museum opens their grounds for cyclists. Urban Bike Project will be there to do safety checks, have our please-touch bicycle repair display, and do minor repairs.

We would also like to extend a big thank you to W.L. Gore, WILMAPCO and White Clay Bicycle Club for their generous support of Urban Bike Project in 2013.

Urban Bike Project closed until Jan 10

Last night, Urban Bike Project held its final Open Shop for 2012. Huge thanks to all our great volunteers and those who made donations to us! We will open back up on Thursday, January 10th.

UBP will not old Open Shop on Thanksgiving Day

Urban Bike Project will be closed on November 22nd for Thanksgiving. However, we will be open for normal Open Shop hours that Tuesday (Nov 20th).

W.L. Gore had some of their employees volunteer at Urban Bike Project on September 17th. Thanks to their hard work, Urban Bike Project was able to clear out 185 damaged bike frames from storage. They even stripped off all useable parts from the bikes so we can use them to help fix up other bikes.

Big thanks to all the volunteers from W.L. Gore who came out to help Urban Bike Project!

Join Urban Bike Project for Southbridge Weekend

Saturday, July 21st from 12-4 PM
This Saturday (July 21st) from 12-4, there will tons of activities for
familes and children, entertainment, food, prizes, and free health
screenings at the Southbridge Weekend event. Urban Bike Project will be
joining in with quick bike repairs, riding safety tips, and giving away
kids bikes.
From 4-8 there will be a basketball tournament and a basketball court
“ribbon cutting” at Elbert Park.
So come down and check everything out! This multiblock event is being
held in Southbridge, which is just south of Wilmington. If coming from
Wilmington, take Market St south over the Christina river and make a
left on A Street. If coming from south of the city, come up Rt. 13 and
make a right on A Street.

Cabot Community Tour rolls into Wilmington on June 16th

Wilmington Grand Prix

The Urban Bike Project was out in force for the Wilmington Grand Prix on May 18-19th. Volunteers from UBP ran the Kids Bike Race, with the winners getting their pick of the racing bikes to choose from.

We also had volunteers manning the information table and merch area, handing out stickers and speaking with the public about the Project and recruiting some potential volunteers.
