Laura Wilburn, Executive Director

Laura Wilburn is a Wilmington native and committed bicycle commuter – she has never owned a car and believes in the power of bicycling to bring our communities closer together.

Laura studied Environmental Science and Policy at University of Maryland, College Park while working for the Environmental Protection Agency. After graduating, she moved to Bozeman, Montana to apply her education and passion to making on-the-ground community impact as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer. Laura served as Youth Program Coordinator at Hopa Mountain, a nonprofit organization where she worked to develop youth leadership through community service. During her tenure as Program Coordinator, the youth leadership program was recognized by Gallatin County for providing exceptional out-of-school youth services.

Laura joined Urban Bike Project as Youth Programs Coordinator in February of 2013, and became Executive Director by September of 2013. Under Laura’s leadership, the organization has found a long-term home at 1500 N. Walnut Street, expanded programming to serve twice as many Wilmington youth annually, and continues to grow the scope and breadth of programs to help Wilmington residents access bicycling as a healthy, affordable and practical means of transportation and recreation.
